Issue #012: The Best Personal Finance Books To Reshape 2024
The best investment you'll make this year

Read Time: 2.2 minutes
👋 Hey Money Peeps,
As the end of the year approaches and your spending levels rise with the last-minute Christmas shopping, I want one of my last newsletters of the year to persuade you to kick off your 2024 in the best way possible when it comes to your finances.
As 'That Money Guy', I have read almost every personal finance book under the sun, and there are a few that have quite literally transformed my life, and I know that they can do the same for you too!
So here is the ask from me:
PLEASE PLEASE GET YOURSELF ONE OF THESE BOOKS BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR AS A LITTLE BIT OF SELF INVESTMENT.
If you do get one, and you don’t think you learned a single thing from it, then I have a deal for you which I’ll mention at the end of this newsletter.
So… wanna find out which books I’m recommending?

THESE BOOKS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Psychology Of Money - Morgan Housel
I only read this book quite recently, and the only thing I was thinking was, "I wish I had read this earlier." Why? Because this book takes the opposite approach to what you would normally think when it comes to money. Instead of thinking you need to be smart and well-educated to be good at personal finances, it actually dives into how you need to simply understand human behaviours.
Honestly, this book is a page-turner, so if you're looking for an easy read, go with this one. You'll have to answer some uncomfortable questions, for example, why do you want to make more money in the first place, but trust me, the clarity you'll get on the other side is worth the small discomfort you might feel.
What this is: A thought-provoking money book that will allow you to actually understand your relationship with money in the first place, so that as you grow your personal finances, you understand what your end goal is rather than just 'making more.'
What this is not: An action-based book. Don't get me wrong, it WILL get you thinking, and most likely will change your mindset with money, but it won’t be the last thing you ever need to read to secure a strong financial future
Rich Dad Poor Dad - Robert Kiyosaki
The book that literally started my entire journey into the personal finance world, this one is a game-changer. No, you won’t learn how to budget, organize your pension, or find the best bank account here. What this book will do for you is give you that much-needed kick up the butt to get your sh*t together right now. I don’t know a single person that has read this book and it didn’t immediately change their perspectives as to how they interact and think about money.
This book is a little on the old side, so as with most education books, always take things with a pinch of salt and pick and choose the pieces of information that you want to digest compared to those you are more happy to gloss over.
Like I said before, this book won’t increase your ‘personal finance’ knowledge exactly, but it will leave you thinking about money a whole lot differently.
What this is: A mindset shift on the way you think about money, so that you don’t stay as a zombie drifting towards retirement but instead actively make decisions to change your financial life.
What this is not: A “personal finance” guide, or an “every word of this is fact” book. There is plenty in here to motivate you, and plenty that I personally disagree with. Either way, you’d be silly not to read it.
I Will Teach You To Be Rich - Ramit Sethi
Ramit - wow, just wow. If you ever wanted a handheld guide that takes you from level 0 to level 10 of the personal finance game, this is it. This book leaves no stones unturned and will quite literally transform your financial life. And don’t be thinking this is going to be some boring guide ticking book, Ramit writes it in such a way that you kind of forget that this book is action after action after action.
I personally thought that I was in incredible financial shape, but the systems that Ramit helps you understand, then build and finally implement have changed the game for me, so I know they will change the game for you too!
What this is: A focus on building systems that will set you up with an incredible financial system for life. It also nicely balances thinking about future you vs current you.
What this is not: A zero-effort book. The only way to maximize the benefits of reading this is to actually take action as you go along and do the steps that Ramit asks you to; otherwise, it’s pointless.
*Each of the blue links above is an affilaite that will take you straight to the amazon page where you can get the book. The price doesn’t change for you, but I do get some kickback 🙂
