Christmas is OFFICIALLY Here 🎄
It’s December, which means we’re finally allowed to say the C word right?
Not that one you cheeky *****
If Magic radio can commit to 24/7 Christmas songs, then I’m allowed to write a newsletter about it. DEAL 🤝.
Now December is by far the most expensive month of the year.
You’re probably thinking presents, and whilst they probably do take the biggest bite out of your savings, there’s a couple of other sneaky things that compound to making this month leave you wondering why you should bother saving at all.
So on that merry note…
Let’s dive into the things you’re probably forgetting to budget for this Christmas, and how you can sort them out!
🎁 Presents
Yep, arguably the most obvious cost associated with Christmas.
But let me ask you this:
Why are you buying gifts for everyone?
No seriously, why did you buy a £20 scarf for that colleague at work who you’ve had precisely 3 minutes worth of conversation with all year… is it just because she’s getting you one too?
Turns out there is a better way to do it, which goes by the name of…
Secret Santa.
This is a game changer.
Instead of scrambling for 10 different gifts for your entire team, you only need to buy one - with a spending limit to keep things affordable.
Everyone loves it, and your wallet will too.
Christmas social events = fun…
and expensive.
Drinks, dinners, and get-togethers can eat away at your budget fast.
Here’s my approach: BE selective.
(translation = learn to say no!)
This year, I’ve been invited to quite a few Christmas events, (not meant to be a brag at all) but I’m only saying yes to the ones that really matter.
The rest? A polite no. (the polite is up to you)
It’s not just about saving money - it’s about keeping the festive season meaningful and stress-free.
📈A different kind of gift this year…
Just a quick word from our sponsors! (it’s actually worth it I promise)
The no.1 question I always get asked about investing is:
“What is the best platform for beginners?”
Over the past few years, I have tried EVERY major player in the game, and I can safely tell you that I have hands down found the best one that ticks every single bucket when it comes to investing for beginners (plus it’s where I invest right now).
In fact, I rate them so highly, that I reached out to them asking if I could gift my newsletter audience something special when they sign up!
AND THEY SAID YES (any guesses who they are?)
So…
If you sign up to invest with Trading 212 through:
or use code ‘GN’, you get a free fractional share worth up to £100.
(NOW THAT IS A GOOD CHRISMTAS PRESENT FROM ME)
Remember that when investing, your capital is at risk and your investments may rise and fall. T&C’s apply.
💡Electricity Bills
The ultimate hidden expense of the holidays. Christmas lights, endless cooking, and hosting guests. Oh how it can make your January bill feel extra painful.
Here’s how I keep it under control:
Add a timer to your Christmas lights so they’re only on during the evenings when you’re home.
Unplug non-essential appliances while hosting (like that rarely-used kitchen gadget).
Be mindful of overusing heaters when guests pile in - it’s cozy, but costs add up!
🎅 Wrapping It Up (pun intended)
Christmas doesn’t have to break the bank - it’s all about being smart with your spending.
Use these tips to keep things affordable, so you can enjoy the season without a financial hangover in January… after all, one hangover is enough right 😅
