Let’s Talk About May 🤑

Alright friends, the monthly round-up is BACK because somehow we’ve landed in another month… AGAIN.

While it might have been a quieter month on the news side of things (no stock market drama thank goodness), there’s still a lot to unpack.

So without further ado, let’s get into it! ⬇️

Just a Reminder…

Here's a summary of May’s financial updates and news:

1. Interest Rates

The new interest rates were announced at the beginning of May - dropping the rates from 4.5% to 4.25%. This is the fourth cut since August 2024 and the lowest rate since May 2023 😅

The cut means you’ll get cheaper mortgages but lower returns on savings soooo a win for some a less for others 🤷‍♂️

More updates coming on this soon, no doubt 😅

2. Energy Price Cap to Decrease by 7%

From July 2025, the average household energy bill is set to reduce by £129 annually, bringing the typical monthly bill to around £143.

Remember this is typical bills - NOT YOUR BILL GUARANTEED! Anyone else enjoying the rollercoaster of bills?! Feels like they change almost weekly 😕

3. Winter Fuel Payment Threshold Adjusted

Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced adjustments to the winter fuel payment threshold, allowing more pensioners to qualify for payments of up to £300.

Who and how much? As per usual, that information was omitted. Why can’t a government just announce things with details for once (feels like last years budget rumours all over again)
